So after yesterdays WIP Wednesday I though I would expand on what I was working on to give a bit more detail on how I paint my Blood Angels.
I'm loving the new push fit system for the models. Finding it really useful to be able to take a piece off and paint it and put it back on again.
I started with the eyes and teeth, personally I prefer to start there, with Corax White (horrible grainy paint but it has it's uses). I've seen a number of videos where the eyes are done last, this to me (and from experience) can cause more problems when doing such a tiny detail. Doing it first, if any paint goes over the intended area, I can easily touch it up when I do the skin. Then it's the rest with a simple base coat of Bugmans Glow for the skin, Averland Sunset for the hair and good old Leadbelcher for the armour.
Next steps were Agrax Earthshade in the recesses of the skin and over the hair and eyebrows. Nuln Oil for the armour parts.
Finally I touched up the hair with Averland Sunset again, highlighted the skin with Cadian Fleshtone and a bit Warlock Purple on the tongue.
So last night, the above picture was where I was currently at but decided to get the rest of him finished off.
- Black primer (I use Vallejo Model Color 200 ml Polyurethane Primer - Black)
- Base coat with Mephiston Red
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet
For the wax seals I use:
- Black primer
- Liche purple basecoat
- Leviathan Purple wash
- Highlight with warlock purple
Anything metal is good old Leadbelcher with Nuln Oil
The purity seals/scrolls I use:
- Black primer
- Bleached bone
- Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight with Bleached bone and for extra highlight a touch of Skull white
The main reason for these combinations is simply because it's what I have in paint collection which isn't extensive and the majority of these colours come from the standard paint sets you can buy.
